Active Sampling Techniques
Active sampling refers to fishing gear that is moved through the water either by people power or engine power to capture fish. Some common active sampling techniques include electrofishing, seining, and hook and line sampling. These techniques allow the biologist to actively target the fish community and provide immediate results. All sampling techniques have their advantages and disadvantages and techniques vary in efficiency across fish species, water turbidity, depth, flow, etc. In the end, a variety of sampling techniques may be needed to properly capture the target species or characterize the entire fish community. |
