2023 Bulls Island Archery Hunts November 6th - 11th and December 4th - 9th

Hunting white-tailed deer is a management tool the refuge uses to maintain a healthy deer population while offering a traditional recreation activity of a valuable renewable resource. Two annual 6-day archery hunts are offered on Bulls Island, one in November and another in December. Only recurve and compound bows are allowed. Hunters must have the refuge hunt permit and all applicable SC state hunting licenses. Bulls Island is three miles off the mainland and transportation is by boat. Due to safety and logistics, hunters are allowed to camp in the picnic area on the island.

Rail hunts in the refuge salt marshes are offered in September, with dates determined during the state season. Hunting is not permitted on Sundays. Hunters must be familiar with federal and state regulations. Please see the refuge hunt brochure.
