Facility Rules and Policies

Public entry is permitted on units open to the public from sunrise to sunset year-round.   

Camping and open fires are prohibited.   

Seasonal waterfowl hunting opportunities are offered.  

To protect the fragile habitat, off-road travel and the use of all-terrain vehicles are not allowed.  

Disturbing or collecting any plant or animal is prohibited.   

Pets must be on a leash while on the refuge.  

Persons possessing, transporting, or carrying firearms on National Wildlife Refuges must comply with all provisions of state and local law. Persons may only use (discharge) firearms in accordance with refuge regulations.  

For your safety:  
Alligators are common and should be observed from a distance. Do not feed alligators or any other wildlife.  

Remember, all wildlife is protected on the refuge. Watch your step and be on the look-out for venomous snakes, including the cottonmouth, rattlesnake, coral snake and copperhead.   

Be especially attentive to small children.
