Law Enforcement

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Federal Wildlife Officers have a wide variety of duties and responsibilities. Officers help visitors understand and obey wildlife protection laws. They work closely with state and local government offices to enforce federal, state and refuge hunting regulations that protect migratory birds and other game species from illegal take and preserve legitimate hunting opportunities. They address other illegal activities, including dumping of trash, illicit drug use, and trespassing by patrolling closed areas and maintaining relationships with neighboring landowners. Our officers want to help visitors discover and enjoy the refuge, but they must also ensure the safety of all visitors and protection of refuge habitats and wildlife.
