Attwater's Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge presents a "A Weekend of Conservation and Celebration!" On April 4th, the refuge will be celebrating the new facility grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony, guest speakers, discovery stations, and Native American dancers. The following days, April 5th and 6th, the refuge will be hosting the 27th annual "Boomin' and Bloomin' Festival" with Attwater's Prairie Chicken viewing, guided nature walks and refuge tours provided by trained individuals, discovery stations, and the same Native American dance team.

More about the festival: the Annual Attwater’s Prairie Chicken Boomin’ and Bloomin’ Festival is a weekend-long vibrant celebration dedicated to the conservation efforts of the endangered Attwater’s prairie chicken, a remarkable bird native to the coastal prairies of Texas. Held in the spring, when these birds perform their unique and captivating mating dance known as "booming," the festival offers a delightful blend of education and entertainment for nature enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors can enjoy guided tours to witness the prairie chickens in their natural habitat, participate in educational activities about wildlife and prairie conservation, and engage with local artisans showcasing environmentally themed crafts. The festival also features a live animal display, guides wildlife walks, and activities for children, making it a perfect outing for those looking to connect with nature and support wildlife conservation efforts.
