Mattamuskeet NWR recently posted public information signs about potentially harmful algal blooms in Lake Mattamuskeet. The presence of cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms (HABs) have been documented in the lake. While you may not be able to see any algal blooms, they are present in the lake. The refuge wants you to be aware of this situation. As a precaution, we recommend you wash thoroughly if you come in contact with lake water. For more information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
If you have additional questions, please contact the refuge office.
