Target Audience:
Employees who want to proactively develop their leadership capacity.
Summary and Objectives:
This course builds individual and interpersonal leadership skills, introducing participants to Adaptive Leadership - a foundational approach in USFWS competitive leadership programs. Prework includes an online strengths assessment, with results explored during class. The course is highly interactive, requiring daily participation in synchronous sessions that feature large group discussions, small group work, individual assignments, reflective practices, and hands-on activities.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the core principles of adaptive leadership and explain their relevance to complex conservation challenges.
- Distinguish between adaptive and technical challenges and identify appropriate approaches for each.
- Assess personal strengths and develop a plan that integrates those strengths into leadership practice.
- Apply effective collaboration techniques to engage others in addressing shared challenges.
- Utilize adaptive leadership principles to analyze a current challenge, broaden perspective, and design strategic experiments for progress.
- Reflect on personal leadership experiences to identify areas for continued growth.
