About Dan Leavitt
Dan is the Colorado River Coordinator for the Arizona Ecological Service's Office (AESO). This position participates in Colorado River programs with emphasis on the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program and the Glen Canyon Adaptive Management Program. He cooperates and coordinates with several Federal partners (such as Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, and the US Geological Survey), AZ Tribes, several water user groups, and many internal FWS programs. Dan represents FWS/AESO in implementing the Endangered Species Act including Sections 4, 7, 9, and 10.
His professional experience includes service as a National Park Service Ranger at Big Bend National Park, Research Biologist at Arizona Game and Fish Department, Conservation Branch Chief at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Natural Resources Program Lead for Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest, and Fish and Wildlife Biologist at the Carlsbad Fish and Wildlife Office. Dan completed his B.A. at Keene State College (NH), M.S. at Sul Ross State University (TX), and Ph.D. at Texas A&M University. His dissertation was study on habitat fragmentation and its impacts to the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard.
