Facility Activities

Visitors to the refuge and island can walk along three miles of trails. Wildlife viewing and photography are popular pursuits. It is also possible to climb to the top of one of the lighthouse towers, where commanding views of the island and surrounding ocean makes the climb worth the effort!

A variety of shorebirds, waterfowl, and songbirds can be seen on, and along the shore of the island during the warmer months.

The island’s 3 miles of trails provide many opportunities to view wildlife, the rugged coastline, lighthouses, and other historical structures.

Whether photographing landscapes, wildlife, or lighthouses, Thacher Island is a “target rich environment.”
