Ways to Get Involved

Although the Refuge is closed to the general public, there are many great ways you can get involved with our refuge! 

Everyone who volunteers must fill out the new Volunteer Services Agreement form.   

If you have a group, you may fill out the Group Volunteer form.

Monthly Volunteer Work Days
Our monthly volunteer work days are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 8am - 12pm. Activities include upland habitat restoration, trash pick-up, and work in the native plant nursery. Registration required by the Monday before the event - call 562-598-1024 and leave first and last names (please also spell out) and phone number of all participants. Meet at the main gate parking lot (800 Seal Beach Blvd.) at 8am on the day of the event. Please bring photo ID. Long pants and sturdy shoes recommended. US citizens only. 

Special Events
Special events are held throughout the year such as National Public Lands Day or trash pick up events. 

Stewardship Work Days
If you have a group of 10-20 individuals interested in arranging stewardship activities, please contact Refuge Manager at least 2 months in advance.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
If you would like to get more involved and can commit 100 hours minimum per year, then please contact Refuge Manager at (562) 598-1024.  A background check is required.

Our Partners

The Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge is committed to building partnerships which encourage conservation and preservation of our natural and cultural resources. Due to limited staff & funding the US Fish & Wildlife Service partners with a variety of agencies and organizations at Seal Beach NWR. This enables us to achieve conservation goals and objectives set forth in our management plans that otherwise could not be accomplished. Partnerships support the Refuge in a variety of ways by providing additional funding, staff, research, and project assistance. The Refuge’s primary partners include Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and the Friends of Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge.

Junior Duck Stamp Contest
Calling all teachers or students K-12! Did you know you can participate on a nation wide art contest by drawing North American ducks?
