PUBLIC NOTICE
For Immediate Release
July 8, 2022

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has released a final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the construction of new facilities to administer the Northwest Montana Wetland Management District (District) to include two refuges. The final EA and FONSI are available for review in the District’s library at: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/northwest-montana-wetland-management-district/library. A direct link to the final EA is available at: https://www.fws.gov/media/final-environmental-assessment-facilities-nwmt-wmd

The Service requested public input on the draft EA during a 30-day comment period from September 28 - October 27, 2021. The Service responded to the 26 comments received by adding new information to the Final EA to clarify or further analyze the proposed action.  Responses to public comments can be found in Appendix D of the Final EA.

The selected action is to construct the replacement facilities on land that the Service will purchase in the Mission Valley. If the Service is unable to acquire land, Alternative C, the construction of facilities on Crow Waterfowl Production Area, will be implemented.

Replacement facilities will provide administrative, residential, and interpretive space for the District to continue fulfilling the mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
