Charlo, Mont. – Today the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) announced the availability of a draft supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed construction of replacement facilities to administer the Northwest Montana Wetland Management District.

In 2022, the Service published an EA for the construction of new facilities, selecting acquisition as the preferred alternative. Since that time, the Service has been unable to acquire a suitable property to construct the administrative facilities. The Service has redesigned the facilities’ construction footprint allowing for new opportunities on existing fee title properties. Five additional fee title properties are considered in this supplement: Duck Haven, Johnson 80, Kickinghorse, Montgomery, and Sandsmark Waterfowl Production Areas.

The Service is requesting public comment on the draft supplemental EA from March 4, 2024 through April 3, 2024. A copy of the document can be found at: https://www.fws.gov/media/northwest-montana-wetland-management-district-administrative-facilities-draft-supplemental. Comments can be submitted by email to FW6NorthwestMontanaWMD@fws.gov or by mail to: 53775 MT HWY 212 Charlo, MT 59824
