Grants and Funding

Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) Land Acquisition Grants, authorized through the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund and funded through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, provide funding to States and Territories to acquire land associated with approved and permitted HCPs.

Recovery Land Acquisitions grants promote state and federal cooperation in endangered and threatened species conservation by leveraging funds to acquire lands to protect habitats.

Traditional Conservation Grants, available through the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund, provide federal financial assistance to support the development and implementation of state and territorial programs to conserve and monitor species that are listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Urban Bird Treaty grants support projects that emphasize protecting, restoring, and enhancing urban habitats for birds and reducing urban hazards to birds, while engaging people, especially those in diverse, underserved communities, in bird conservation, recreation, science, and education activities.

Conservation Planning Assistance Grants provide federal financial assistance to states and territories to support the development of Habitat Conservation Plans and Conservation Benefit Agreements.

Tribal Wildlife Grants are used to provide technical and financial assistance to Tribes for the development and implementation of programs that benefit fish and wildlife resources and their habitat.

The National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grants Program annually provides grants of up to $1 million to coastal and Great Lakes states, as well as U.S. territories to protect, restore and enhance coastal wetland ecosystems and associated uplands.

The Wolf Livestock Loss Demonstration Project Grant Program provides federal financial assistance to states and tribes to provide funding to assist livestock producers in undertaking proactive, nonlethal activities to reduce the risk of livestock loss due to predation by wolves and to reimburse livestock producers for livestock losses due to such predation.

The Service provides federal financial assistance on a competitive basis to states, landowners, educators, non-profit organizations, researchers, and other potential partners to secure information about endangered or threatened species, to aid in the recovery of these species under the ESA, and to help conserve the ecosystems upon which they depend.

NAWCA U.S. Standard grants are competitive, matching grants that support public-private partnerships carrying out projects in the U.S. that involve long-term protection, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) Mexico Grants promote partnerships between public agencies and groups interested in protecting, improving, restoring, and managing wetland ecosystems and other habitats for wetlands-associated migratory birds and other fish and wildlife in North America.

The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) Grant Program funds projects promoting the conservation of neotropical migratory birds in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean

NAWCA Small Grants are competitive, matching grants that supports public-private partnerships carrying out projects in the U.S. that involve long-term protection, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

NAWCA grants in Canada are competitive, matching grants that support public-private partnerships carrying out projects in Canada that involve long-term protection through real property interests, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service accepts project proposals annually to protect, restore and enhance Great Lakes fish and wildlife habitat under the Great Lakes Fish and Wildlife Restoration Act (Act). I

The primary purpose of the Webless Migratory Gamebird Program (WMGBP) is to support activities that will improve management of the 16 species of migratory shore and upland game birds (MSUGBS) in North America.

The Great Ape Conservation Fund is a financial assistance program that supports projects that deliver measurable conservation results for great ape populations in Africa and great and lesser ape populations in Asia.

Through the Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Fund, we provide financial and technical support to projects that deliver measurable conservation results for African and Asian rhinoceros, and tiger populations in Asia.

The Latin America Regional Program provides technical and financial support to projects that deliver measurable conservation results for priority species, habitats, and ecological processes across landscapes with high biodiversity value in Mexico and Central and South America.

The Central Africa Regional Program Bushmeat Funding Opportunity (F24AS00433) supports projects that address the unsustainable commercialization and trafficking of meat illegally harvested from wild populations of protected species for trade and consumption in Central African cities.
