CHENEY, Wash. - Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge welcomes educators to an environmental education open house Nov. 16 and 17. New environmental education curriculum and tools are available for first through 12th grades at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, thanks to the Friends of Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge and Spokane Tribe of Indians. All levels of educators and school administrators are welcome to join us at the refuge as we explore education in the great outdoors. The open house will be held in the refuge’s Environmental Education Classroom from 3:00pm to 6:00 p.m.
Working with an environmental education expert, the friends group, tribe, and refuge developed a set of lessons that can be used as self-guided field trips at the refuge. Each lesson comes with pre-field trip activities, including an introduction to the refuge and the land, activities to be completed during a refuge field trip, and post-field trip in-class activities.
During the open house educators will have an opportunity to review the lesson plans for their grade, participate in a lesson from the student perspective, pre-register for teacher training and discuss the lessons.
