A diverse class of children look through microscopes on a table set up outside in a forest

The Refuge offers a number of self-guided education opportunities for formal and informal education groups. Group leaders and educators can download the materials to lead their own programs at the refuge. If your group is larger than 15 people or if you are planning multiple visits per year, please contact the Refuge to get a permit. Allow a minimum of 30 days to process.

As of January 2026, we are excited to partner with Post Pigeon to offer a unique in-classroom educational experience. Using our standards-aligned curriculum, you can now introduce your students to Desert National Wildlife Refuge from anywhere in the country! Whether you dive in for an hour, a day, or longer, tailoring the curriculum to meets the needs of your class is easy. The best part? You will receive a personalized video postcard from the refuge answering your student's questions. Getting started is just a click away.

For guided programs or questions about our self-guided options, please contact Jennifer Heroux, Visitor Services Manager, 702-515-5453.
