Although most refuge lands and outdoor spaces have remained open for the public to enjoy, we ask that you recreate responsibly.

  • Check alerts and local conditions on this website and call ahead for current information. Operations vary based on local public health conditions.
  • Consistent with CDC recommendations, all visitors (age 2 and older), who are fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask inside of federal buildings in areas of substantial or high community transmission.. All visitors who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces.

Refuge headquarters is located on the southeast side of Lake Ilo and is open 8am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays and when the staff is working away from the office.

Cooperative Agricultural Agreement Opportunities

Cow Grazing

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking agricultural producers for Cooperative Agricultural Agreements at Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge in Dunn County, North Dakota. Grazing on the Refuge is allowed through the permit process. Areas for grazing change yearly and are dependent upon the habitat condition, permittee access, and water and fence availability. Producers must apply by contacting the Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge at 701-548-8110, via email (, or in person at Refuge headquarters (489 102nd Avenue SW, Dunn Center, ND 58626).
