Working with Emotional Intelligence

Target Audience: 

All USFWS employees

Summary and Objectives: 

Emotional Intelligence is not fixed and can be cultivated and grown. During this interactive training, participants will grow their skills of identifying, regulating, and expressing emotions, as well as how to cope with workplace challenges. The training will emphasize the personal benefits of emotional intelligence, such as trust, collaboration, engagement, and satisfaction. In the training, participants will work individually and in small groups to work through several scenarios. Participants will get the opportunity to evaluate and analyze their report and create an action plan. 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what emotional intelligence is and how it impacts your interactions with others.
  • Improve self-regulation of emotions and reactions to situations.
  • Develop empathy and understanding of others’ feelings and perspectives. 
  • Express emotions in ways that are appropriate for the time, place, and culture.
  • Use emotional intelligence to support your peers, communicate better, improve group performance, and enhance organizational skills.
