About Joslin E. Heyward

I started with the Northern Alaska Fish and Wildlife Field Office in January 2022, working primarily on Section 7 Section 7
Section 7 Consultation The Endangered Species Act (ESA) directs all Federal agencies to work to conserve endangered and threatened species and to use their authorities to further the purposes of the Act. Section 7 of the Act, called "Interagency Cooperation," is the mechanism by which Federal agencies ensure the actions they take, including those they fund or authorize, do not jeopardize the existence of any listed species.

projects and Species Status Assessments. I graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelors of Science in Conservation Biology, and the University of Wyoming with a Master's degree in Zoology & Physiology. Most of the species that I have worked with in the past have been avian and small mammal species, so polar bears are a novel and exciting species for me! When not working, I enjoy recreating on and off trails (backpacking/ hiking/ trail running) and gardening in the summer, and in the winter I enjoy skiing and fat biking.
