3-200-52: Renewal or Amendment of a Permit

The process to renew CITES documents has changed. This application is no longer being used for this purpose. You must submit a new application.  Please read all of the instructions below to avoid unnecessary delays in processing your application.

Download and complete the attached form, 3-200-52, when applying to amend your permit. An amendment occurs when something has changed, for example the consignee, the number of authorized species, etc., after a permit has been issued. If the permit expires in 60 days or less, you need to submit a new application and return the issued document, when requesting the new permit and explain the changes you wish to have made. Include any necessary documentation when you make your submission.

To amend your single use permit online, locate the permit in the "My Active Permits" tab on your portal that you wish to amend. Click on the permit you wish to amend and select the appropriate option. You need to 1) upload a copy of the appropriate application form used originally and 2) return the hard copy (original) permit to the office that issued the permit. You can choose to mail these documents; however, allow at least two additional weeks for mailed in requests and information to be processed.

Please note the following circumstances when a different application form is needed:

  • This form cannot be used to replace a lost or damaged permit. If you need to replace a lost or damaged permit, use application form 3-200-66 (form attached). You will need to locate the lost or damaged permit file in the "My Active Permits" tab on your portal, select that permit. You will need to select the appropriate action (i.e., Renew/Amend or "Duplicate/Replace") and upload the form 3-200-66.
  • Master files for multiple shipments, Certificate of Scientific Exchange (COSE), circus/traveling exhibits, Captive-Bred Wildlife Registrations, CITES Appendix I Commercial Breeding Operations, and artificially propagated plants, can only be renewed or amended by submitting a new application for those activities. Download the application for the type you wish to renew or amend. Then locate the file in the "My Active Permits" Tab on your portal that you wish to renew. Click on that permit and select the appropriate option (i.e., Renew/Amend or "Duplicate/Replace"). You can choose to mail these documents; however, allow at least two additional weeks for mailed in requests and information to be processed.
  • Certificates issued from a Master File cannot be renewed.
  • For sport-hunted trophies, if you did not hunt during the hunting season stated in your original application, you must submit a new application for an upcoming hunt. If you were unable to use your permit during the time allotted on the permit and successfully hunted a trophy, please submit a new application form, include a scan of the unused permit, and return the hard copy (original) permit to the office the issued the permit.
  • Designated Port Exemption permit, use application form 3-200-2 and submit to the appropriate Office of Law Enforcement address noted in the permit application form. If you are renewing your Import/Export license (required for commercial activities), use application form 3-200-3 and submit to appropriate Office of Law Enforcement address.

To Amend your Permit, Provide the Following:
