The refuge holds regularly-scheduled educational programs. More information can be found on the Red Wolf Center page and on the Environmental Programs page.

The refuge participates in the annual Wings Over Water festival, held each October. This wildlife festival raises funds for the refuges and includes over 90 trips & programs involving birding, paddling, photography, art, and natural history. Activities take place in six northeastern North Carolina counties and six national wildlife refuges, including Pocosin Lakes.
