Hunting at Lostwood Wetland Management District

There are 56 Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) within the Lostwood Wetland Management District. The WPAs have rolling hills and scattered wetlands that characterize the Coteau prairie in two northwestern North Dakota counties. The WPAs are open to hunting in accordance with State regulations. Coteau Prairie WPA is the largest WPA (2,700 acres) and has habitat that is ideal for hunting sharp-tailed grouse. North Dakota #2 WPA has a large island - in wet years, it functions as a "mallard motel". Better options for waterfowl hunting may be the Sikes WPA and Moen WPA which are more likely to have water in dry years. The WPAs are open to foot traffic only.
