Bicycling

The refuge auto tour, located on State Highway 49, has a paved route (3 miles) suitable for bicycling and also offers an access spur to the Wild Goose State Trail. Old Marsh Road (gravel) which bisects the marsh is open for hiking and bicycling June 1 - August 31 as well as between December 1 and March 15th. Closed the remaining months for bird migration. The entire Main Dike Road near the southern end of the refuge is open year round for hiking and bicycling. Access is limited to the roads only-adjacent dikes are closed.

Bicycling is not allowed on grass hiking trails to minimize trail damage. Bicycles must be walked on boardwalks or parked at the bicycle racks for the safety of all visitors.
