Coastal and marsh fishing can be spectacularly good in the delta’s richly productive habitat. Redfish, speckled trout, and flounder are the most commonly sought fish. Recreational fishing and crabbing are allowed in designated areas of the refuge in accordance with state regulations.

During state waterfowl season and light goose conservation season, all public entry is prohibited between Main Pass and Raphael Pass, to provide sanctuary for wintering waterfowl and migratory birds.

During state waterfowl hunting seasons, we only allow recreational fishing from 2 pm until 1/2 hour after legal sunset on lands northwest of Main Pass and/or south of Raphael Pass.  Commercial fishing is prohibited.
