2023 State Contest: In April 2023, the FWS Sacramento Regional Office successfully hosted the California Junior Duck Stamp Contest (JDS) virtually. Twelve judges from various organizations judged 260 pieces of artwork and selected winners for the state of California. Artwork by Michelle Lin (age 16) from Fremont won the distinguished title of California’s Best of Show and competed in the national competition. Sophia Fan, age 12, from San Jose, California, wrote the winning message — “Each act of conservation is a bright brush stroke on the canvas that is our future.” The winning artwork is featured on the regional Pacific Southwest Flickr.
