The Region 6 Office of Conservation Investment (CI) of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is requesting public comment on a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for a proposed 0.7661-acre easement to Rocky Mountain Power. The easement would allow for the burial of a portion of an overhead power line to reduce wildfire risk. This action is part of the Northridge (NRD)-12 Fire High Consequence Areas (FHCA) Rebuild Project, located within the Timpanogos Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Utah County, Utah. Funding for the project administered by the Service constitutes a federal action subject to the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended.

The proposed NRD-12 FHCA Rebuild Project within the Timpanogos WMA aims to enhance wildfire safety by replacing aging overhead power lines with fire-resistant conductors, swapping wooden poles for steel poles, and installing an underground conduit system. The underground conduit will tap the existing distribution line near the Bonneville Shoreline Trail parking lot and be buried along the existing trail to minimize new disturbances. The Draft EA prepared by the Eocene Environmental Group and reviewed by the Service and Utah Division of Wildlife Recourses, analyzes the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project.

Public comments will be accepted for a 30-day period which ends October 17, 2025, and can be sent by email to: patricia_thompson@fws.gov or by mail to: Office of Conservation Investment, Attn: Patricia Thompson P.O. Box 25486, Denver Federal Center Denver, CO 80225. Thank you for your interest and feedback on this project proposal.
