This spring, the USFWS Conservation Library invites you to read with us to start our year-long celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Our first book in this series of titles that explore American history is Making America’s Public Lands: The Contested History of Conservation on Federal Lands by environmental historian Adam M. Sowards.
The United States encompasses over 640 million acres of federal lands. Journey with us from the beginnings of public lands to the present and explore the many achievements, challenges, and debates of their complex history. The work of the Department of Interior’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service, as well as the U.S. Forest Service feature prominently in Sowards’ book. Let’s read together to enrich our understanding of the work we do today by learning about how our public lands came to be.
Join us March 19th at 3 PM Eastern time for our book discussion. Please register in advance.
Want to read with us? FWS employees can borrow Making America’s Public Lands from the USFWS Conservation Library as an eBook on Libby (learn how to get started with our guide). We also have limited hard copies available. To request a copy, email library@fws.gov.
