Coyotes of Canaan Talk @ Visitor Center

Dr. Edwin D. Michael will describe the history of coyotes and wolves in Canaan Valley, and in West Virginia in general.  He will also discuss the future of coyotes in Canaan Valley, and the role they play in maintaining a balanced ecosystem. Coywolves and coydogs will be described, as well as their role in the expansion of coyote populations in the northeastern United States.

The food habits of coyotes in Canaan Valley will be a key element in determining the population growth of these fascinating canines.  While a diversity of foods are available in the Valley, certain foods typical of coyote diets throughout much of their range are scarce.

Edwin Michael, a retired Professor of Wildlife Management at West Virginia University has conducted research in Canaan since 1975, and is currently a part-time resident.  Earlier novels by Dr. Michael about Canaan Valley were, "A Valley Called Canaan" and "Death Visits Canaan."

Copies of Dr. Michael's recent novel, "The Coyotes of Canaan," will be available for sale following the talk.  Profits from sales of this scientific novel will assist future projects of the Friends of the 500th.

Meet at the visitor center at 6pm.
