Conservation Book Club Meet & Read

The days are warmer, the sun is setting later - spring is on its way! That means it's almost time for some of the most incredible long-distance athletes in the animal world to start preparing to migrate north. We will delve in to the story of 1 of those amazing species- the Red Knot, a small, robin-sized shorebird, by reading the book "The Narrow Edge: A Tiny Bird, an Ancient Crab, & an Epic Journey" by Gloucester-based author Deborah Cramer. Winner of the Rachel Carson Book Award and the Reed Award in Environmental Writing, The Narrow Edge explores the closely intertwined relationships between Red Knots, horseshoe crabs, and humans.

Mark your calendars- we will celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by having our book club meeting from 10am-12pm on Saturday, May 11. In the meantime, you are invited to the Refuge Visitor Center for a 'Drop in & Read' Day on Friday, April 12: come by anytime from 2-4pm to relax and take some time to read!

There will be no facilitated discussion during the April 12 Drop in and Read program. Participants are welcome to bring snacks + friends and take some quiet time to enjoy reading The Narrow Edge at the Refuge Visitor Center. More information about the May 11 book club discussion will be posted closer to the program date.
