In alignment with National Wildlife Refuge Week, the Refuge will be opening our D-Line Canal Road for public access on Saturday, October 18th! This special event will enable visitors to see areas of the Refuge that are not typically open throughout the year.
In order to access the D-Line Canal Road, visitors will drive the normal Auto Tour Route up to the entrance gate on the corner of Unit 2D near the accessible Observation Deck. Refuge staff will be present at the start of the road in addition to other stops along the way. At each of the stops, visitors are encouraged to park and meet staff and volunteers to learn more about the Refuge. Parking will not be allowed outside of the designated stop areas. The D-Line Canal Road entrance gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors are welcome to stay on the road with their vehicles until 4 p.m. once inside the gate. Special self-guided activities will be located at the Visitor Center and at the start of the Auto Tour.
