Overview

Fender's blue butterfly (Icaricia icarioides fenderi) is a federally threatened subspecies of butterfly found in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It was federally listed as endangered in 2003, but was downlisted in 2023 after 20 years of dedicated conservation improved the status of the butterfly. It may be confused with the similar silvery blue butterfly (Glaucopsyche lygdamus) or spring azure (Celastrina echo) which are often present in the habitat as adults at the same time of year.
