Black Bears on the Refuge

American black bears (Ursus americanus) are active on the refuge. After a very slow summer of bear sightings, the fall has been quite the opposite. Visitors are seeing bears in the fields, in the canals, up trees and even walking along the roads.

We recommend you stay at least 100 yards away from their space. Don't feed the bears. More tips on viewing an dealing with black bears on Bearwise.org
