The Key Largo woodrat is a medium-sized (2OO-26O gram) small mammal with a gray-brown back and head. Its belly, chest, and throat are white, and the tail is hairy. This species is a noctural herbivore, feeding on the buds, leaves, and fruit of many plant species. Food may be stored in the stick nests built by this species.
