Morris Wetland Management District will be opening up for bid to allow the cutting of hay on 16 Waterfowl Production Areas (WPA) this year.  Contact J.B. Bright by phone 320-589-4970 or email jb_bright@fws.gov to have individual maps for the 16 WPAs sent to you.  Hay Units are as follows:

Big Stone County: 

1) Akron WPA – Up to 36 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 12 T121N R44W.

2) Centennial WPA – Up to 22 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 20 T123N R45W.

3) Foster WPA – Up to 28 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 26 T123N R48W.

4) Humpty Dumpty WPA – Up to 30 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 36 T124N R46W

5) Kufrin WPA – Up to 58 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15. Section 21 T122N R45W.

6) Malta WPA – Up to 57 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 24 T123N R45W.

7) Persen WPA – Up to 31 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 13 T121N R44W.

Lac qui Parle County:

8) Florida Creek WPA – Up to 85 acres for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 31. Section 9 T116N R45W

Pope County:

9) Jorgenson WPA – Up to 23 acres cut for invasive species invasive species
An invasive species is any plant or animal that has spread or been introduced into a new area where they are, or could, cause harm to the environment, economy, or human, animal, or plant health. Their unwelcome presence can destroy ecosystems and cost millions of dollars.

Stevens County:

11) Giese WPA – Up to 87 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 22 T126N R43W.

12) Miller WPA – Up to 20 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 11 T125N R42W.

13) Moore WPA – Up to 32 acres cut for invasive species control and habitat maintenance after July 7, with bales removed by August 7.  Section 12 T123N R41W.

14) Stimmler WPA – Up to 14 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 15 T124N R43W.

15) Wente WPA – Up to 71 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 24 T126N R42W.

Swift County:

16) Svor WPA – Up to 65 acres cut for habitat maintenance after July 15, with bales removed by August 15.  Section 20 T122N R38W.

Permittees will be selected based on receipt of sealed high bid for each of the hay units.  Sealed bids are due at the office no later than 1:00 p.m. June 30, 2023.  One cutting of hay will be allowed.  Wetlands can be hayed if they are dry enough to get equipment into the area without rutting the ground.  Please note, bids are to be based on a per acre basis and billing will be for actual acres cut.
