Water Control structure added to Rock Creek Bog
Motor Vehicle Operator Charles Hood assisted members of the U.S. Forest Service and Georgia Department of Natural Resources with the installation of a water control structure for Rock Creek Bog. The structure will allow water to be backed up in the fall to help drown out some of the evasive weeds and woody materials and improve the overall habitat for the Bog turtles. The team also had to replace the old culvert under the road with a larger culver to handle the release of the water come spring when they open it back up. Plans now are to leave the control structure open for regular flow and then to close it this fall after the turtles have gone into hibernation for the season.
