The Sweetwater Recharge Facilities (SRF) and Wetlands were established in the 1980s as one strategy to reduce the City of Tucson’s unsustainable reliance on groundwater by treating wastewater to reuse for non-potable water needs while simultaneously providing habitat for wildlife. In addition to the 40 acres of recharge basins, SRF includes 22 acres of constructed wetlands.
