Stowage, Storage and Maintenance

Description

This short module covers some essential topics as rope, line, and net stowage on vessels and storage back at the shop.  For overseeing gear maintenance, evaluation, and treatment, Greg Faulkner presents the concept and role of a “Gear Master”.  Finally, there is information on when to consider replacing lines and nets and on net coating and dyeing.

Part 1 Net Storage

Short- or longer-term storage of nets (gillnets, trammel nets, trawls) must be done properly to extend the useful life of nets and reduce down-time. Part 1 is a simpler approach primarily for in-season storage of gillnets and trammel nets but can be followed for longer storage periods.

Part 2 Net Storage

Storage of gillnets and trammel nets: Part 2 concentrates on longer-term storage for entanglement gear and trawls, but also methods can be used for short-term in-season storage. Storage of gillnets, trammel nets, and trawls.
