Beach Cleanup for National Public Lands Day

Did you know? National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer event for our nation's public lands. Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a community beach cleanup for this year's event. All year trash washes up onto the refuge beach from the ocean. Periodic beach cleanups help keep the beach free from trash - a good thing for people and our wildlife!

Along with simply removing trash from the beach, we also collect data on every piece of trash collected. The International Coastal Cleanup strives to catalog beach trash, creating a database of marine debris. This data is used to identify ways to work to eliminate debris from our world's oceans.

Call (757)301-7329 ext.3106 to sign up for this event. All equipment is provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own favorite pair of reusable gloves if the prefer. Thank you for helping to keep our beaches trash free!
