Dixy Lee Ray served as the 17th Governor of the State of Washington, 1977-1981. Before that she was a professor of zoology at the University of Washington and director of the Pacific Science Center. At its 1974 commencement ceremony, University of Puget Sound awarded Professor Ray an honorary Doctor of Science degree.
