The annual Christmas Bird Count started on December 25, 1900, and is coordinated by Audubon. Every year, from December 14 through January 5 volunteers across the Americas take part in the effort. This data can then be used by conservation organizations from State and Federal agencies to NGOs to track bird populations, identify species that may be declining, and guide conservation actions.
