Keep cultural fishing tradition alive with our youth
Guam youth can learn and practice fishing skills at Ritidian

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (the Service) in partnership with War in the Pacific National Historical Park invites youth to participate in a fishing workshop on Saturday, April 20 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Ritidian Unit of the Guam National Wildlife Refuge. 

Youth from seven to seventeen years old may participate in the free youth fishing workshop. Workshop participantswillpracticetraditionalfishingsuchastalayanetthrowing,rodandreelfishing,preparing gear, and safe & sustainablefishing. Guam Department of Agriculture’s Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources staff and Service volunteers will assist participants with fishing skills and techniques. Registration for the workshop is required and limited to the first thirty youths that pre-register. Fill out this pre-registration form and email to marybelle_quinata@fws.gov to reserve your child's spot. 

"We're excited to share this opportunity with Guam youth to continue Guam's cultural fishing tradition, while encouraging youth to practice sustainable fishing this Earth month, " says Marybelle Quinata, USFWS Park Ranger. 

The workshop will be near the Ritidian Nature Center. Participants may bring their fishing rod for workshop, but fishing rods and talaya (cast nets) will be available to borrow during the activity.
