Great Egret With Fish

The great egret (Ardea alba) in the photo below has the catch of the day, a mullet. Fish are the great egret's main meal. But they will eat frogs, snakes, amphibians, grasshoppers, aquatic insects and small rodents and mammals. Great egrets have long black legs and a knife-like yellow bill. This tall wading bird has long black legs and can reach over 4 feet in height, with a wingspan of over 4.5 feet. And they can be seen at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and this region year 'round.
