Yellow-Billed Cuckoo

On Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge the pictured Yellow-Billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) found a snacklet. Yellow-Billed Cuckoos feed on a variety of spiders and insects, including ants, beetles, caterpillars & crickets. Occasionally, the Yellow-Billed Cuckoo will lay its egg(s) in another birds nest. The unsuspecting surrogate parents often ends up hatching and raising the young cuckoo.
