American Oystercatcher

If you're out birding or just walking along the shore, it's difficult to miss the bright orange-red bill of the American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus). Over the next few months, oystercatcher nests on Pea Island NWR will be protected by Refuge staff who post "Do not enter" signs at the nesting sites.
