Beyond the Call of Duty
Valor is defined as a strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with firmness and personal bravery. Working on America’s public lands every day in service to the American people are highly dedicated men and women who personify the word valor. Each year millions of visitors spend time on our national wildlife refuges recreating, finding solitude, enjoying wildlife, and reconnecting with nature. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff members make sure those visitors have a terrific time, but are also safe. Recently, three employees received Valor Awards for unusual courage involving a high degree of personal risk in the face of danger. Learn how they helped keep people safe on our public lands.
