DOI-ITAP takes pride in sharing the experience of our outstanding technical experts from DOI in our assignments worldwide. Steven Sesnie, Spatial Ecologist from the Fish and Wildlife Service, and Neal Jander, Geographer from the National Park Service, participated in a one week assignment to Bogota, Colombia on utilizing GIS techniques for improving land planning. This assignment was part of the Environment Peace Initiative for Colombia (EPIC), a project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). A primary objective of this assignment focused on providing assistance with the creation of geographic information system (GIS) platforms and training courses to consolidate and analyze natural resource data for conservation purposes.
