The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has appointed Brian A. Millsap as Chief, Division of Migratory Bird Management, Assistant Director for Migratory Birds and State Programs, Tom Melius announced today.
"The Service is pleased to have Mr. Millsap aboard," Melius said. "His experience in migratory bird research and management and his considerable experience with State conservation programs will be a great asset to the Service."
The Fish and Wildlife Service is the lead Federal agency for managing and conserving the more than 800 species of migratory birds in the United States. As chief of the Migratory Bird Management Division, Millsap will be consulting with the Flyway Councils to establish the annual federal migratory bird hunting regulations and will lead efforts to address other current migratory bird management issues such as overabundant snow geese, resident Canada geese, cormorant impacts on fisheries, and the effects of powerlines and towers on migratory birds.
Millsap will oversee the Services leadership activities in Partners In Flight, the U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan, and the North American Waterbird Conservation Plan; and will play a lead role in the implementation of agreements with more than 20 federal agencies to
protect migratory birds. He also will guide the Service
