The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announces that Alan Schriver has been selected to manage the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex, headquartered at Gautier, Mississippi. This 30,000 acre refuge complex is comprised of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge at Gulf Shores, Alabama; Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge at Grand Bay, Alabama; and the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge at Gautier, Mississippi.
Schriver, a 24 -year veteran of the agency, has spent his Service career working on field stations within the refuge system. His most recent job was as Deputy Refuge Manager at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Complex, overseeing refuge management at Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge, Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge, and the four units of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge.
"Alan brings a great deal of field experience to his new role as manager of the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex." said Sam D. Hamilton, Southeast Regional Director for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. "I feel confident that we have chosen the right leader to manage these important wildlife resources."
Before overseeing management activities at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Schriver was Deputy Refuge Manager at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in Manteo, North Carolina. Other refuges where Schriver worked include Pea National Wildlife Refuge in Rodanthe, North Carolina; Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in Rio Hondo, Texas; and Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge in Dover, Tennessee.
"After my recent temporary assignment at the Bon Secour refuge," said Schriver, "I am looking forward to working with the people of Alabama and Mississippi to protect and manage the unique natural resources of the gulf coast."
Schriver is an Ohio native and a U. S. Navy veteran. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Science in Wildlife Management both from The Ohio State University.
He and his wife, Terri, have one son, Scott, who lives in Murray, Kentucky. Alan and Terri enjoy fishing, gardening, reading, and birding.
