Hawks Nest Pack Alpha Male Euthanized
A male Mexican gray wolf, part of the Hawks Nest Pack, was euthanized late Wednesday (November 1) after failing to respond to treatment by a veterinarian team.

Following consultations with numerous veterinarians, including the U.S. Geological Survey National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin; the Mexican Gray Wolf Reintroduction Team determined that euthanasia of male wolf #131 was necessary.

On Friday, October 27, the interagency field team observed that the Hawks Nest Pack alpha male was away from its pack and moving in an uncoordinated manner. He was captured on Sunday and transferred to a veterinary facility for treatment and observation. After more than 72 hours, his progress had not improved so the decision was made to euthanize him.
