Mexican Wolf Female Found Dead
During routine monitoring on the morning of October 27, Interagency Mexican Wolf Recovery Team members discovered the body of the Campbell Blue Packs female #482. The body of the wolf was found lying approximately 100 yards off of highway 191 in Eastern Arizonas Apache National Forest. The Campbell Blue female was paired with male # 166 following the death of his former mate, and the new pair was re-released into the Apache National Forest on December 11, 1998. The pair had established their territory in the Stray Horse area of the forest.
The body of the wolf is being shipped today to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services National Forensics Laboratory in Ashland, Oregon where a necropsy will be performed. Results of the necropsy may take several weeks.
