Other General Contacts
Our partners at the National Park Service run the Toms Cove Visitor Center and provide visitor services at our recreational beach. Their website is the hub for information about lifeguard services, horseback riding, oversand vehicle permits, ranger guided programs, and visiting the Maryland side of Assateague Island.
Our staff does not rehabilitate wildlife nor can we respond to incidents off site. Instead, keep your distance from the animal and contact a local rehabilitation facility. The contact information for the Wildlife ER - Education & Rehabilitation may change periodically, so check their Facebook page for the most up to date information.
If you find injured wildlife on the refuge please keep your distance and give us a call.
The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Stranding Response Program is responsible for rendering aid to all marine mammals and sea turtles that come ashore in Virginia. Our biologists work closely with this team as first responders to any marine mammal or sea turtle strandings that occur on our property. For such cases, you can call the hotline or us. Call the hotline directly for any strandings in the Sate of Virginia that aren't on our refuge.
